Adult, Acanthurus olivaceus has a brownish body with a vertical orange spot. The young also have this spot, but they are fluorescent yellow. This fish feeds on fine filamentous algae covering rocks and sand.

The sohal surgeonfish is native to the Persian Gulf, but an invasive population has established itself on the Greek coasts of the Mediterranean Sea. This territorial fish mainly lives alone, feeding on algae (sargassum) in outer reefs.

Acanthurus xanthopterus is a large surgeonfish found throughout the Indo-Pacific and the eastern Pacific. A benthopelagic species, it lives up to 34 years, reaches 70 cm in length, and feeds on algae, detritus, and organic matter.

The bristle-tail file-fish (Acreichthys tomentosus) is a master of mimicry, able to change the color and texture of its skin to blend in with the epiphytes of tropical seagrass beds. It plays an ecological role in controlling the proliferation of these organisms, thus protecting the photosynthesis of the seagrasses it lives in.

Amphiprion ocellaris is the best-known species of clownfish. It was popularized by Disney's productions "Finding Nemo" and "Finding Dory". It is mainly found in the eastern Indian Ocean, in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, along the coasts of Thailand and Malaysia, as well as from northwestern Australia to Singapore.

The arapaima, a freshwater giant reaching sizes of up to 4.5 meters, plays a vital role as a dominant predator in the Amazon basin. Equipped with thick and resilient scales that provide effective protection against predators, this iconic freshwater fish is threatened by overfishing. Juveniles breathe through their gills while adults often use their swim bladder to gulp air at the surface.

With its large eyes, this tete sea catfish detects prey and threats in coastal waters. During reproduction, the male protects the eggs in its mouth until hatching, a rare form of parental care among catfish.

Bodianus diplotaenia, commonly known as the Mexican hogfish, is a tropical reef fish native to the eastern Pacific Ocean. At night, they gather in cracks and crevices of rocks to sleep. They are carnivorous species. They are born female and change sex as they grow, transitioning to males with a change in color.

This species is encountered in the eastern Pacific, from the Gulf of California to Peru, including the Galápagos Islands. It forms schools ranging from the surface to a depth of 120 m in coral reefs and primarily feeds on plankton in the water column above the reefs.

The eyes of this fish are masked by a colored band, and it has an eyespot at the back of its body that attracts predators to a part of the body without vital organs. It is popular among aquarists, but it requires prey of a suitable size, preferably live.

The blue-green Chromis is a fish that lives in large schools above dense coral areas. At the slightest alarm, this swift fish takes refuge in the colonies of branching corals. The Blue-green Chromis is common throughout the Indo-Pacific region.

Ctenochaetus striatus, elegantly named the "striated surgeonfish", is found in the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific, particularly in the lagoons of La Réunion and Mauritius. In Tahiti, during the full moon, this fish displays a natural spectacle: large schools form, and after a brief moment of stillness, each individual breaks away to release eggs or sperm.

The whitetail Dascyllus resides in the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region and the Red Sea. This white reef fish striped with three black bands is often found in large groups above massive colonies of staghorn corals. It feeds on zooplankton, benthic invertebrates, and algae. During the breeding season, males choose the nest and perform a dance just above it as a courtship display. The female is then invited and escorted to the nest where spawning takes place.

This butterflyfish is easily recognized by its elongated snout, which is useful for capturing aquatic microorganisms among corals. It also uses it to peck at the feet of echinoderms, the pedicellariae of sea urchins, and the tentacles of marine worms.

The bluestreak cleaner wrasse feeds exclusively by parasitically cleaning larger fish and turtles. In the reefs, it coordinates a cleaning station, typically near branching corals. Particularly active at the beginning of the day, these small cleaner wrasses clean the gills and mouths of many fish species.

This fish lives camouflaged among the gorgonians. it watches its prey from a promontory and swims quickly toward them to catch them before returning to it observation post. During the breeding season, the male performs a courtship display to attract the attention of a female.

It also feeds off of feces of other animals. To protect itself, it has sharp bony plates along its sides. It emits sounds reminiscent of grunts. It easily acclimate to the aquarium, but because of its large size, it can become cumbersome.
